FDA grants traditional approval to selpercatinib for locally advanced or metastatic RET fusion-positive solid tumors

On May 8, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved selpercatinib, the first drug approved specifically for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is positive for transfected rearranged gene (RET) fusions, and adult patients and children aged 12 years and older with advanced or metastatic medullary thyroid carcinoma harboring RET mutations who require systemic therapy, as well as adult patients and children aged 12 years and older with RET fusion-positive advanced or metastatic thyroid cancer that are refractory to systemic therapy and radioactive iodine therapy (if applicable).
